I often have people ask me about maintenance of outdoor bronze sculptures. This sculpture was placed outside in 1999 and has received no maintenance. As you can see, it is starting to show signs of oxidation and will eventually turn a beautiful green. This affects the surface of the metal and will not cause any further damage, only a color change.
If you are interested in maintaining the original patina on your outdoor sculpture, simply wash it with a mild soap, rinse, dry, and polish it with a little car wax. Depending on your climate this may need to be done a couple of times a year. If you don't want to do it yourself, most bronze foundries can assist you in finding a professional who can provide this service.
