One of my favorite childhood memories was a visit to a Spanish Mission in Southern California. It was there that I first became acquainted with sculpture, sand sculptures of saints. They were beautiful! I wondered how it was possible to make sand look like a real person. This early inspiration lead to drawing and painting, but the three dimensional saints were always in the back of my mind.
Throughout the years I’ve studied fine art at Ricks College in Idaho, Brigham Young University in Utah, and the Loveland Academy in Colorado. My first experience with sculpture was at Ricks College where the teacher showed us a bin of slimy water based clay and told us to dig in. I was very quick to drop that class and decided clay was not for me. It wasn’t until I discovered the oil based clays that I fell in love with sculpture!
I enjoy sculpting, painting, and drawing the real world. I once had a teacher who said, “Find what you love about your model and it will show in your drawing.” Each individual has something unique and beautiful about them and it’s always been my quest to discover that thing.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my website, leaving an occasional comment, and visiting often.
P.S. I also discovered that not all water based clay is created equal and need not be slimy.
